FIRST TIME USERS The Data Locker requires 5 Volt and 500mA of current from a USB port. Older computers and USB hubs may not provide sufficient power to operate any type of external hard drive. Please check with your PC maker to ensure that your USB port is adequately powered. If your computer can not deliver adequate power, you may be required to use both USB connectors of the included “Y” cable. If your computer has a non-powered USB port, please contact Data Locker about purchasing an option AC adaptor.
STEP 1 : Connect the included USB Cable to the Data Locker as illustrated. Ensure that the DATA AND POWER prong of the “Y” cable is plugged into the computer. The second prong is for additional power and may or may not be required depending on the power output of your USB port.
STEP 2 : TURN THE POWER SWITCH ON.

Hard Drive Initialization and Formatting Instructions
For Macs, see section 8.1.
After you have successfully installed the hard drive, you need to partition and format it.
After your new hard drive is initialized, look at the bar at the bottom right of the Disk Management screen; it represents the new drive and it should display the size of the hard disk and the word %u201CUnallocated.%u201D Next, you have to create a partition and then format the disk.
9.1 Formatting your hard drive for Mac Users
Mac Users will have to format the hard drive to the FAT format since Macs are not able to write to NTFS formatted drives. To do this, open up Disk Utility which can be found under Applications. Click on the hard drive in the menu on the left. Click on the Partition tab. Change the format to MS-DOS (FAT) and follow the instructions from there.
